What to budget for a Mumbai to Kanpur move
These are general planning budgets for household moves to Kanpur, with basic packing, loading, transport and unloading as agreed. They are not shared-load rates for every size. Your quote names the mode, and a vehicle booked for your goods alone is priced separately on the same inventory.
| Move | Planning range | Contents assumed for planning |
|---|---|---|
| A few items | ₹6,500 – ₹12,500 | A stack of cartons and perhaps one or two small pieces |
| 1BHK | ₹16,500 – ₹25,500 | A lightly furnished home with one main appliance set |
| 2BHK | ₹20,500 – ₹35,500 | Two bedrooms of furniture, a kitchen and a living room |
| 3BHK | ₹25,500 – ₹45,500 | A fuller home with several wardrobes and appliances |
| 4BHK | ₹45,500 – ₹70,500 | A large home with many bulky pieces |
| Larger homes | Quoted individually | Assessed from the inventory and both properties |
A home with the same label can hold far more or far less than the assumption in the table, so the inventory moves the figure up or down.
Four questions to put to any quote
- Which mode does it assume, and which day are the days counted from?
- Is the price based on space, weight or a minimum, and what does that include?
- Where does delivery stop in Kanpur, at the entrance or in the named rooms?
- Are furniture assembly, technician work, crates, tolls, parking, stairs, waiting, storage, redelivery, GST and cover each shown as included or extra?
Reading online price tables before comparing them
First check that the price describes Mumbai–Kanpur transport rather than a local Mumbai move or a different destination. If the estimate lists packing, labour and transport separately, check that the parts add up and that a transport charge is not added twice. Then compare mode, packing, door handling and delivery floor on the same packed inventory. A low starting figure does not by itself describe the full job.
Distance, corridor and delivery time
Plan on a road distance of about 1,300 to 1,450 km, depending on both properties and the corridor. A public navigation tool shows 1,303 km and about 25 hours for a passenger car via NH52. The navigation estimate excludes preparation, loading, consolidation and the property’s unloading appointment.
A possible corridor crosses Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. It may run on the Nashik and Dhule side toward Indore, then connect north through places such as Jhansi to Kanpur. The carrier confirms the alignment, and it may vary with the properties and conditions. No single highway is assumed for the whole trip, and no fixed list of towns is promised.
As preliminary planning windows, a dedicated vehicle takes about 3 to 5 days after dispatch, once packing and loading are finished. A shared load takes about 5 to 7 days from pickup, and that includes the time to bring the shared load together. A car or bike carrier takes about 4 to 7 days after pickup, on its own dates. Confirm the receiving appointment within the expected arrival window.
These are not records of past trips or guarantees. The transport assigned to your move confirms the window before you book.
A reporting date and a delivery window are different
For a shared load, count the indicative 5–7 days from pickup, not from the day you travel. For example, pickup on the 18th gives an illustrative 23rd–25th window. If your hostel allotment only starts on the 25th, that does not cover receipt on the 23rd or 24th. Confirm whether an authorised receiver can accept it or whether later pickup or storage is needed.
A dedicated vehicle counts its 3–5 days after dispatch, with packing completed beforehand. Use the dates agreed for your shipment, leave time to unpack essentials and arrange your own travel separately. The example is calendar arithmetic, not a guaranteed latest pickup date.
Pickup from a Mumbai flat, PG or shared room
Give the exact pickup city and locality, whether that is a Mumbai suburb, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira Road or Vasai-Virar. Include the building, room or flat, floor and PIN so the assessment starts at your actual door.
Society flat
Ask the office about moving hours, lift reservation and any required intimation or gate pass. Show the path to the permitted vehicle stopping point, including stairs, tight turns and any entrance-height limit. If a smaller transfer vehicle is needed, agree its cost and the package count at the handover before loading.
PG, hostel or shared flat
- Separate your own belongings from the landlord or PG furniture before making the inventory. Get permission before including property owned by someone else.
- Mark your cartons clearly so a flatmate’s belongings are not mixed into the Kanpur load.
- Agree pickup access with the owner or warden and name the person who signs the outgoing count.
- Arrange room inspection, key handover and any deposit discussion under your rental terms; keep that appointment separate from the mover handover.
Shared load, dedicated vehicle, or a few items
A shared load rides with other consignments, and the price follows the space or weight your goods take up. It suits a small inventory when your date is flexible, and the days run from pickup. A dedicated vehicle is arranged for your goods alone, is priced separately on the same inventory, and suits a full home or closer control over dispatch, with the days running from dispatch.
For a student, a tenant or anyone sending a few items, the question is how much space your goods really take once they are packed. A count of boxes does not answer it, and the next section shows why.
Why ten boxes do not set a small-load quote: a packed-size worksheet
Two people can each say they have ten cartons and need very different amounts of space. The volume of one carton is its length times its width times its height, with all three in metres. Use the outer packed dimensions, measured after the carton is sealed.
| Carton size (cm) | Volume of one (m³) | Number | Total (m³) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 × 40 × 40 | 0.096 | 10 | 0.96 |
| 60 × 60 × 60 | 0.216 | 10 | 2.16 |
This is an illustration, not a completed job or a tariff. Ten of the larger cartons take 2.16 cubic metres against 0.96 for the smaller ones, which is more than twice the space for the same count.
The worksheet
- The outer packed dimensions of each carton size.
- How many cartons of each size.
- The weight of each, if you know it.
- Whether you packed them or the crew did, since sealed cartons are carried as sealed.
- Anything fragile, and the largest single piece, with its length, width and height.
- The access at both ends, including the floor, stairs or lift, and where the vehicle can stand.
Volume is not the whole quote
A small carton of books can weigh far more than a large carton of linen. Furniture that cannot be stacked needs its own loading space, and packing, labour, a minimum charge and the mode all affect the price. Ask whether your quote is based on space, weight or a minimum, and what each includes. Be wary of any figure that converts volume to weight by a rule you are not shown, since the basis should be stated in your quote.
A mixed student load: cartons, suitcases and a bicycle
The following sizes are hypothetical packed dimensions, not a standard package or a price promise. Measure your own goods in their final agreed transport form.
| Package | Packed size | Quantity | Combined volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cartons | 45 × 35 × 35 cm | 8 | 0.441 m³ |
| Suitcases | 70 × 45 × 28 cm | 2 | 0.1764 m³ |
| Bicycle in an assessed compact package | 140 × 25 × 80 cm | 1 | 0.28 m³ |
| Illustrative total | Three package groups above | 11 packages | 0.8974 m³, about 0.90 m³ |
If the bicycle instead occupies an illustrative 170 × 60 × 105 cm envelope, its own volume becomes 1.071 m³ and the combined total becomes 1.6884 m³, about 1.69 m³. The carton count has not changed, but the larger piece has changed the space calculation considerably.
Those bicycle sizes are examples, not a dismantling instruction or an assurance that your model fits either package. Have the packing and any disassembly assessed, identify the parts and agree who reassembles it. Weight, stackability, protective packing and the carrier’s charging basis still matter; no rate per cubic metre is implied.
A simple note for your actual load
For each package group, write: item, final packed length × width × height, number of packages, weight if known, fragile contents and whether anything can be stacked above it. Add the largest piece and access details at both properties. Send this with the inventory so a few-items estimate can be checked against the goods you actually plan to send.
Writing your Kanpur address, including a campus
For Kakadeo, Swaroop Nagar, Civil Lines, Govind Nagar, Kidwai Nagar or Barra, add the property and entrance details to the locality name. A property in Kanpur city is not the same endpoint as one in another town or part of the district, so give the exact town and the PIN, and a separate quote will be written if it is elsewhere.
| Address type | What to record |
|---|---|
| General Kanpur address | The colony or locality, the building or house number, the block, your floor, the entrance and the private gate pin, and a receiver's name and phone number |
| Campus-side address near Kalyanpur | The hostel or building, the room, a contact person, the allotment status, and the point where a vehicle may stand |
IIT Kanpur describes its residential campus as being off GT Road near Kalyanpur, about 15 km west of the city. For a student or a tenant moving there, ask the institution or the property which entry permissions apply to a goods vehicle and a crew, and whether delivery is allowed before the room is allotted. No rule is assumed here, and the business has no affiliation with any institution.
Industrial stock and machinery are not part of a household BHK price and are assessed separately.
Before delivery to a controlled-entry building
For a campus, official colony, township or gated property, ask the authorised office which gate, crew details or vehicle approval process applies to your own address. Confirm who submits any information and whether the room is available for receipt. Share access details privately with the booking team and name someone who can meet the shipment; no universal entry hours or institution rules are assumed.
How common household items are handled
| Item | How it is usually handled | What to agree |
|---|---|---|
| Glass and crockery | Wrapped one piece at a time and packed in small cartons | Who packs it, and whether the cartons are marked fragile |
| Books and files | Packed in small, firm cartons so none gets too heavy | The number of cartons, since they weigh more than their size suggests |
| Mattresses and sofas | Covered and padded at the corners | Whether covers are included |
| Beds and wardrobes | Taken apart where agreed, with fittings bagged and taped to the piece | Which pieces come apart, and who assembles them at the other end |
| Refrigerator and washing machine | Prepared according to the model manual; fit required transport restraints before moving and remove them as instructed before use | Who does the technician work in Kanpur, and when |
| Televisions and screens | Upright in padded wrap or the original box, with cables bagged and labelled | Whether the original boxes are available |
Confirm whether you want the crew to pack the full inventory or selected items, and identify your own sealed cartons. The loading record should account for each box and larger piece. On arrival, direct placement using the room labels within the agreed scope, reconcile the count and record visible damage or shortages before completing the receipt. Furniture assembly, unpacking and removal of empty materials should be named in the booking. Personal documents, valuables and everyday medicines travel with you.
Office shifting with an asset list and delivery plan
For approximately 6–8 workstations and chairs, computers, a few cabinets and file cartons, an indicative office budget is ₹26,500–₹55,500. Cabinets, the quantity of files and access can change the scope considerably, so send the complete list. IT setup, stock and machinery need separate assessment.
Give every asset a receiving position
Use a department or desk code on equipment and furniture, and mark file cartons with the same destination. Provide a copy of the list and a simple layout to the person receiving in Kanpur. Identify essential files and equipment that need to be located first.
Prepare the building and systems
The building contact should confirm the loading point, lift or stair arrangement and moving period. Your IT provider handles backups, disconnection and later network setup. Keep a representative available at both offices to check and sign the physical inventory; handling equipment does not include configuring it.
Car and bike transport
The carrier, the model, the packing and the handover points all affect these figures.
| Vehicle | Planning range |
|---|---|
| Hatchback | ₹15,500 – ₹23,500 |
| Sedan | ₹16,500 – ₹25,500 |
| SUV | ₹22,500 – ₹34,500 |
| Bike | ₹5,000 – ₹9,500 |
| Heavy bike | ₹7,000 – ₹12,500 |
Allow a preliminary carrier window of about 4 to 7 days after pickup, on its own dates, separate from your household goods. Ask what type of carrier is used, and where in Kanpur the vehicle is handed over, since that point may not be your gate.
Condition record at handover
- Photograph all sides of the vehicle, the odometer reading and any existing marks, and keep a signed copy of the condition form.
- Note the fuel level and the keys handed over, and follow the carrier's instructions.
- Remove personal items and loose accessories.
- At delivery, compare the vehicle with the form and your photos before you sign.
Keep the registration certificate, your ID and a copy of the insurance ready.
If the room is not ready: storage and insurance choices
Where a room allotment or possession date is uncertain, ask whether dispatch can be adjusted or storage arranged. Before choosing storage, confirm availability, location, the recorded intake inventory, rent period, release contact and the cost of handling and final delivery. Agree how an extension is requested if access remains unavailable.
ALPM can assist with insurance within the agreed scope. Review the policy before the transport it covers, including declared values, exclusions, owner-packed goods and claim requirements. Keep item photographs, the signed inventory and receipts together. If a delivery concern arises, identify it on the handover record and notify the relevant mover and insurer promptly with photographs.
Choosing a mover, the process and the terms to agree
Compare the same consignment
Send every mover the same packed-size list, furniture inventory and two addresses. Check whether its price buys packing and door handling or only transport, and ask which space, weight or minimum-charge basis applies. Compare the dispatch and delivery windows as well as the figure, especially for a shared student or tenant load.
How ALPM takes the enquiry forward
- Share the inventory, any packed measurements and both properties’ access details.
- Agree the itemised work, vehicle arrangement and expected delivery window.
- Confirm booking, payment and date-change terms before the loading appointment.
- Check the outward count during packing and loading.
- Have the Kanpur receiver reconcile incoming goods and record any concern.
The direct contact, inventory-based scope and signed handover count are the practical reasons to book with ALPM. Call +91 94671 86002 or email info@agarwalpackermoverindia.com. Ask for an advance receipt, balance schedule, cancellation terms and the procedure if dispatch is delayed or extra work is requested.

Preparing, and mistakes to avoid
Before you book
- Write your inventory, and for a small load fill in the packed-size worksheet.
- Write the Kanpur address in full, with the PIN and a receiver's name.
- Decide the mode, and ask what the price is based on.
Before the loading day
- Prepare appliances as their manuals say, and pack and number your own cartons.
- Ask your society office and the Kanpur building or institution about lift booking, permissions and moving hours.
- Keep documents, jewellery, cash and medicines with you.
On arrival
- Count the cartons against the inventory, check large pieces, and note any exception before you sign.
- Coordinate appliance technicians with confirmed delivery and the model instructions.
Common mistakes
- Quoting a number of boxes without their sizes or weights.
- Comparing quotes with different modes or different starting points for the days.
- Giving a locality name as the full Kanpur address.
- Assuming a campus allows delivery without checking with the institution.
- Reading a 25 hour navigation time as the delivery time.
- Signing a clean receipt before the count.
Keep transport records and unsuitable products separate
Keep your inventory or packed-size note, agreed quotation, consignment reference and receipts accessible, with a copy for the receiver. For business-owned equipment or stock, ask the owner or accounts team what movement documents apply before dispatch.
Keep LPG cylinders, fuel, thinner, fireworks and other hazardous products out of household cartons. Ask your gas distributor about connection transfer, and discuss doubtful products with the carrier before packing. Avoid perishables or leaking containers; pets need separate travel and plants need discussion before booking. Carry certificates, work equipment and everyday essentials yourself.
