Send a list with rough sizes, and expect the 5 to 8 day planning estimate, which includes consolidation. Work back from your joining date or check-in, and keep your laptop, ID documents and medicines with you. Label each carton with your name, phone number and a number.
Check the space reserved for your goods
Ask for the proposed vehicle's usable internal dimensions and carrying capacity, or the share of space allocated to your consignment. Include cartons from lofts, kitchen cupboards and storage beds, not only the furniture visible during a room walkthrough. Find out whether the goods stay in one vehicle or are transferred, and how your numbered packages are counted if a transfer is planned.
Writing a Chennai address a mover can use
Some Chennai addresses carry both an old and a new door number. Where yours does, write both and label which is which. Do not assume every house has a pair. If the lease, the signboard and the map show different versions, ask the receiver to settle on one consistent address before the quote and before dispatch, and use that same version on the quote, the inventory and the receipt.

An area name is where a quote starts, not where a vehicle stops. OMR and Rajiv Gandhi Salai are broad corridor labels. The established Madhya Kailash–Siruseri section spans roughly 20 km, so 'OMR' alone still leaves the actual property unresolved. The standard scope
A household quote is built from packing, loading, transport and unloading. List which room contents need professional packing and which soft goods or cartons you will pack yourself. Refrigerators and washing machines need to be emptied and dried the way the manual says. Air conditioners, geysers and chimneys normally need a technician at each end, so say who is booking one.
What stays with you
Keep original documents, jewellery, cash, medicines, laptops and chargers with you, together with a bag for the first night. Hazardous items are not carried, and valuables are best kept out of the load.

Keep the relocation bill separate from office assets
If your employer pays for the household move, ask HR for the invoice name and supporting records it requires. A company-paid home move is still a home inventory.
