What it costs to move from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar
As a rough budget, a household move from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar starts at about ₹24,500 for a 1BHK and reaches about ₹70,500 for a 4BHK. A smaller load costs less. Use these indicative ranges to plan your budget; confirm the payable quote against your inventory and both addresses.
| Move size | Indicative range | What the range assumes |
|---|---|---|
| Few items | ₹12,500 – ₹20,500 | Suitcases, cartons, a mattress or one small piece of furniture |
| 1BHK | ₹24,500 – ₹35,500 | Bedroom furniture, a refrigerator, a washing machine, a TV and kitchen and clothes cartons |
| 2BHK | ₹30,500 – ₹45,500 | Two bedrooms, a living-room set, standard appliances and a full kitchen |
| 3BHK | ₹35,500 – ₹55,500 | Three bedrooms, larger furniture and a heavier appliance and carton load |
| 4BHK | ₹45,500 – ₹70,500 | A large inventory with several bulky pieces and a high carton count |
Reading the figures
The ranges assume ordinary inventory and basic packing, loading, transport and unloading, as scoped. Where a quote falls inside a range depends on whether your goods travel on a shared or a dedicated arrangement, the packing material, and the access at both ends. Vehicle size follows the load and access measurements. A heavy 1BHK can cost more than a lean 2BHK, which is why a room-wise inventory gives a better quote than a BHK label.
One scope, with each line marked
The table below sets out what to confirm, so that packing, travel and extras are not mixed into a single number.
| Line | Ask the quote to say |
|---|---|
| Furniture dismantling and reassembly | Which pieces, and who does the work at each end |
| Appliance technician work | Who books the technician for air conditioner, geyser or chimney uninstall and install |
| Tolls and parking | Included or extra for each, and the amount if extra |
| Stairs, long carry and shuttle | Floor, lift availability, and whether a smaller vehicle is expected at the destination |
| Waiting, storage and redelivery | Whether any are in scope, and how each is charged |
| GST | Included or extra, as applicable, and how the invoice is issued |
| Optional insurance | Offered or not, the declared value and the policy terms |
Mumbai pickup: get the building handover ready first
For a pickup in Mumbai, Thane or Navi Mumbai, send the building address alongside the suburb name. A flat in Borivali, a Powai apartment and a Kharghar tower need their own access check. The estimate should describe the actual floor, lift and loading point rather than treating every Mumbai pickup as the same job.
- Ask your society office about the move-out letter or permission it needs, permitted hours and any lift reservation.
- Check the largest furniture pieces against the lift and stair turns. Tell the mover what must be dismantled before it leaves the flat.
- Send an entrance photo and identify where the proposed vehicle can stop. If a tempo transfer is needed, agree its handling and cost before loading.
- For a rented home, separate the landlord's fittings from your own goods and leave time for the empty-flat inspection and key return.
Give the receiver in Bhubaneswar the final carton list before you travel. If you fly or take a train ahead of the goods, carry the belongings you need for your first few days separately.
Distance and time on the road
Plan on a road distance of roughly 1,600 to 1,800 km. A navigation service shows about 1,631 km for a passenger car by one route, but that journey time is a passenger estimate and not a delivery time for a loaded truck. The real figure depends on where you load, where you unload and the alignment the carrier uses.
The corridor
A possible corridor runs from Maharashtra through the Nagpur side into Chhattisgarh near Raipur, and then through the Sambalpur and Angul side of Odisha to Bhubaneswar. The Samruddhi expressway and NH53 may form parts of it, but no one highway number describes the whole trip, and the carrier's alignment can vary. Do not assume a fixed chain of stops. Tolls on the route used should be marked as included or extra.
Four separate clocks
- Loading: packing and loading in Mumbai, within your building's allowed time, on a date and slot agreed with you. It can run long.
- Dispatch: the date the loaded vehicle leaves. For a dedicated arrangement it is agreed after loading. For a shared load it depends on when the load is ready.
- Journey planning: allow about 4–6 days after dispatch for a dedicated household vehicle. For a shared load, allow about 6–9 days from pickup including consolidation; that window includes time before departure. Vehicle carriers have a separate planning window of about 5–8 days after pickup.
- Receiving: a window agreed with the receiver in Bhubaneswar, subject to the building's allowed time.
Confirm an estimated receiving window for your actual dates. Consolidation means the time it takes to bring a shared load together before it departs. Weather and road conditions can add time, and no fixed number of delay days is assumed here.
Fix the receiving date around current conditions
Check availability at both buildings before choosing a month-end or holiday-week move. For weather, use the forecast and any official warning applying to your dates and route rather than assuming a fixed delay for an entire season. If a warning or unsafe access changes the plan, settle the revised receiving contact, unloading slot and any waiting or storage arrangement before the vehicle reaches the destination.
Where exactly in Bhubaneswar: home, campus or office
The kind of destination matters more than a famous landmark. Patia, and Sijua and Patrapada, are different parts of the city, so do not treat one for another. A private flat near a large institution is a different delivery from a hostel room, a campus unit or staff quarters inside it. An institution's name is a landmark. It is not an address, and it is not a permission to enter.
| Destination type | Details to send | Who must confirm |
|---|---|---|
| A private flat or house near an institution, for example in Patia, Sijua, Patrapada or Khandagiri | The full building and flat number, or house number, the actual approach and the entrance | You or the authorised receiver, with the building office where relevant |
| A hostel, campus unit or staff quarters | The building, room or quarters number, the actual entrance and the receiving authority | Whoever manages the premises, with an agreed work slot in writing |
| An apartment in Saheed Nagar, Nayapalli or Jaydev Vihar | The building, floor, lift availability and the carry from where a vehicle can stop | The receiver, with the building office where relevant |
| A project or campus unit in Chandrasekharpur, Patia or Infocity | The project or campus number, the unit, the entrance and the gate | The project's management or the receiver |
| An office or commercial unit | The plot, unit or sector, the loading point and the authorised asset receiver | The authorised office receiver and building manager |
Entry to a hostel, campus or quarters is decided by whoever manages it, so get the receiving authority and the work slot confirmed before dispatch. Do not assume all roads in a planned part of the city are easy for a truck, or that every society has a lift or a gate rule. Ask the receiver.
Cuttack, Khordha, Jatni and Puri are separate places, not names for a Bhubaneswar address. If your destination is one of them, the exact endpoint is confirmed separately, and no fixed extra fee is assumed. At the Mumbai end, give the actual suburb, building, lift, stairs, carry and the place where a vehicle can stop.
Kalinga Nagar, Bhubaneswar, or Kalinganagar in Jajpur?
These names need more than a spelling check. Kalinga Nagar is a residential address area in Bhubaneswar, while the Kalinganagar industrial area in Jajpur is a different destination. Write the city and district, your own PIN, the block or project and the gate-level map pin. An office posting in Jajpur does not automatically make your household delivery a Bhubaneswar city move.
For Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Nagar, include the K-block where applicable and the actual house or apartment entrance. In Dumduma or Sundarpada, add the housing scheme or phase if it forms part of your address. These details help distinguish similar building names without assuming that every approach road fits a large container.
Arriving in wet weather: a staged receiving plan
On a trip of several days, goods may meet rain at the end even if they did not meet it on the way. A short plan agreed with the receiver protects both the goods and your records. It also makes it easier to identify which cartons need attention before unpacking.
| Stage | What to do | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Before the vehicle arrives | Arrange a dry receiving area, such as a covered porch or a cleared room, and protect the floor | The name of the receiver and the covered point |
| At unloading | Avoid placing cartons on wet floors. Count the cartons and check the outer condition before opening any | The carton count and the outer condition |
| If wrappers are wet or torn | Tell the crew or the contact straight away, and note which cartons are affected | Photographs, with the carton numbers |
| After unloading | Agree the priority rooms and the essentials to open first. Full unpacking is not assumed to be part of the visit | The agreed priorities |
| Electronics and appliances | Do not switch on anything that looks wet. Follow the manufacturer's guidance, or ask a technician | Which items were affected |
Keep the receipt note, the photographs and the inventory together. Before dispatch, agree how you will handle an unsafe unloading slot: whom to contact, whether waiting or storage is available, and how revised work would be priced.
House shifting from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar: scope and handover
A household move covers packing, loading, transport and unloading as scoped. Settle the points below before the date.
Packing and loading in Mumbai
Loading takes place within your building's allowed time, from a spot where the vehicle can legally stand. Tell the mover which lift you may use, how far the carry is and where a vehicle can stop, and do not assume a blanket rule about truck timings. We work from your inventory and the access at both addresses, and cartons are numbered so that the count can be checked at delivery.
Furniture
Name the pieces that need dismantling, such as beds, wardrobes and dining tables, and who reassembles them in Bhubaneswar. Units fixed to walls often need a carpenter, so ask whether that is in scope. Empty wardrobes and drawers before loading.
Appliances
Prepare each appliance as its manual describes. Empty and defrost the refrigerator ahead of time and keep it upright. Drain and dry the washing machine. If your model uses transit bolts, they are fitted before transport, removed before the machine is operated, and stored after removal for the next move. Air conditioners, geysers and chimneys normally need a technician, so confirm who books one at each end.
Unloading and set-up
Goods are unloaded as agreed and counted against the inventory with your receiver. Placement in rooms, unpacking and reassembly follow the scope you agreed in writing, and any difference or damage is noted on the receipt before you sign.
A Kharghar to Patia 2 BHK plan, step by step
This is an illustrative planning example, not a completed customer job or a fixed-price offer. Suppose a family is moving its own two beds, sofa, dining set, refrigerator, washing machine and packed room contents from Kharghar to a Patia flat. The 2 BHK range above is a starting budget; the item count and both buildings decide the actual estimate.
- Before confirming the booking: send room-wise photos, identify anything staying behind and check whether the Patia flat already supplies furniture or appliances. Settle full or selected packing and any carpenter or technician work.
- Before loading: reserve the Kharghar lift and loading point, and have the Patia receiver confirm keys, the delivery gate and unloading slot. Prepare each appliance according to its own manual.
- At dispatch: sign the numbered inventory and check the transport arrangement. A dedicated move has a planning estimate of 4–6 days after dispatch; packing day and the receiving appointment are separate.
- If the flat is not ready: compare an agreed storage-and-redelivery arrangement with a temporary-address delivery followed by another local move. Ask for each handling and transport cost before deciding.
- On arrival: count cartons with the receiver, check outer condition and place first-use items where they can be opened easily. Use the wet-weather receiving plan above if the unloading path is wet.
Keep the household receipt, vehicle booking and your own travel tickets distinct. A car or bike sent separately can have a different handover date from the home contents.
Packing by item group
Ask the quote to say which materials are used for which items. Here is what is commonly done for each group, without a fixed number of layers.
Breakables
Crockery and glass are wrapped one by one, packed in small strong cartons, and the gaps are filled. Mark the fragile cartons and follow their orientation labels.
Soft and upholstered items
Mattresses and sofas are covered with plastic or stretch film and padded. A cover helps against dust and light splashes. It does not make goods rainproof, which is why the receiving plan above matters.
Wood and metal
Wooden furniture gets blankets or foam on its surfaces, with corner guards and secured doors and drawers. Photograph existing marks before loading so the condition record is clear at handover.
Electronics
Televisions and monitors go in the original box if you have it, otherwise in padded wrapping with corner protection, carried upright. Cables are bagged and labelled. Carry laptops with you.
Documents and valuables
Original documents, jewellery, cash and daily medicines travel with you, not in the load.
With full packing, agree which room contents the mover will pack and which personal items stay with you. With selected packing, the mover packs fragile and bulky items and you pack soft goods. Ask how cartons you packed yourself are treated, since their contents cannot be checked.
Few items and student moves
A student, a professional with a few boxes, or anyone with a small load can use a shared load. As a budget guide, a few items cost about ₹12,500 to ₹20,500 on this route. What fits depends on the actual inventory, so send a list with approximate sizes.
Dates and receiving
A shared load has a planning estimate of about 6 to 9 days including consolidation, and departure depends on when the load is ready. If you have a start date or a hostel check-in, work backwards from it and leave room for loading, consolidation and the receiving window.
One named person for the small load
Name a receiver, and for a hostel or campus room, confirm the receiving authority and the allowed time. Label each carton with your name, phone number and a number, keep a count, and keep your laptop, ID documents and medicines with you.
One appliance, luggage or a bike with the boxes
A fridge, washing machine or dismantled bed needs its actual dimensions and packing requirement assessed, even when it is the only item. Ask for that list to be priced as a part load; the few-items range is not an automatic minimum for every object. If you also want to send a bike, confirm whether the proposed load can accept and secure it, or whether it needs a separate vehicle booking.
Moving physical office goods to Bhubaneswar
Office shifting is planned from an asset list of desks, chairs, cabinets, files and equipment. As a budget guide, a small office on this route is about ₹36,500 to ₹53,500. That assumes roughly 8 to 10 workstations with chairs, computers moved as physical goods, and a few cabinets and cartons of files.
Digital backup and set-up
Your IT team or vendor handles disconnection, data backup, network setup and reconfiguration. Coordinate packing and carrying with that IT schedule, and retain access to essential files during the journey.
Asset receiver and building rules
Label each item or carton with the department and the destination position, keep an asset register, and count against it in Bhubaneswar. Name an authorised receiver at each office, with a backup. Commercial buildings often have rules for goods lifts, loading points and working hours, so confirm them with the building manager at both ends.
Equipment needing separate assessment
The budget covers ordinary office furniture, files and packed equipment. Clinical equipment, hazardous materials and heavy machinery require a specialist assessment outside this standard office scope.
Car and bike transport from Mumbai to Bhubaneswar
Budget for vehicle transport using the ranges below, then confirm the model, carrier arrangement, packing and handover points in your quotation.
| Vehicle | Indicative range |
|---|---|
| Hatchback | ₹18,500 – ₹27,500 |
| Sedan | ₹20,500 – ₹30,500 |
| SUV | ₹23,500 – ₹36,500 |
| Bike | ₹6,500 – ₹10,500 |
Timing and handover points
As a planning window, a vehicle carrier takes about 5 to 8 days after pickup, depending on availability, the model and the endpoints. A closed carrier and door delivery are not assumed. A carrier may load and deliver at agreed points, depending on its size and the address. Ask where the vehicle is handed over in the Mumbai region, where it is delivered in Bhubaneswar, and what the carrier type is.
Handover record
- Photograph or record all sides of the vehicle, the odometer reading and any existing marks.
- Note the fuel level and the keys handed over, and follow the carrier's instructions.
- Remove personal items and loose accessories.
- At delivery, check the vehicle against the form and your photos before you sign.
Keep the registration certificate, your ID and an insurance copy ready.
Storage, insurance assistance and records
Storage and insurance assistance are available subject to the agreed scope. List the selected arrangements separately in your quotation.
Storage if keys or dates slip
Storage helps when your Bhubaneswar home is not ready, when keys are delayed, or when a building will not allow unloading on the day. Intake, rent for the period and redelivery are not free by default, so ask for them as separate lines. Confirm the storage location in the quote, the inventory at intake and who signs it.
Optional insurance
We can help with optional insurance as per the agreed scope. Any cover is issued under the insurer's terms and depends on the policy, the declared value and the exclusions. Read the policy against your declared inventory before selecting cover.
Records that help
- The signed inventory with carton numbers.
- Photographs of high-value items and the packing before loading.
- The delivery receipt, with any exception noted before you sign.
- Photographs of any damage, taken straight away, and prompt written notice to the mover and, if cover applies, to the insurer. The time limit depends on the policy, so check it.
Keep valuables, original documents and cash with you. Items that are hazardous or not permitted for transport are not carried.
Booking, documents and preparation
Use this sequence to coordinate the Mumbai handover with your Bhubaneswar receiver.
- Send your enquiry with both addresses, floors, lift details, your dates, a room-wise inventory and the destination details from the table above.
- Read the quote for the lines that are included or extra, and check that the arrangement, dispatch date and receiving window are in writing.
- Confirm the building's allowed time at both ends, name your receivers and a backup, and book any appliance technician.
- Prepare the appliances as their manuals describe, and keep documents, laptops and medicines in a bag that stays with you.
- On loading day, be present or leave a named person, check the inventory and carton numbers as items are loaded, and photograph large furniture.
- On delivery, have the receiver and the keys ready, follow the wet-weather plan if it is raining, count the goods against the inventory, and note exceptions before you sign.
Documents to keep
Keep the addresses, the signed inventory, the written quote, and the invoice or mover receipt for the transport. Keep any building permission you need at either end. For a car or bike, keep the registration certificate, your ID and an insurance copy.
Common mistakes
- Giving a landmark or an institution's name as the delivery address.
- Treating Patia and Sijua or Patrapada as the same part of the city.
- Assuming the keys and the receiver will be ready on the arrival day.
- Treating the shared-load date as the dispatch date.
- Signing a clean receipt before the count.
If your employer is paying for relocation
Ask HR for the invoice name, billing details and required supporting records before the booking is final. Keep the accepted quotation, inventory, payment receipts and delivery receipt together. Reimbursement approval rests with the employer. For a move to Infocity or another workplace area, distinguish your home address from the office asset-delivery address and name the right receiver for each.
Choosing a mover for Mumbai to Bhubaneswar, and what ALPM offers
Compare the same load and receiving address
Give each mover the same item list, dates and full Bhubaneswar destination. Compare the load arrangement, estimated dispatch and receiving windows, packing materials, furniture work and any local transfer. Check that the business details on the quote match the company you contacted, and keep receipts for payments.
Working with ALPM
We start with your inventory and access at both ends, then agree an itemised scope, transport arrangement and receiving window. Tell us whether delivery is to a private home, hostel, campus unit or quarters so the quotation reflects the right entrance and receiver. The inventory remains the reference for the loading and delivery counts.
