Mumbai to Guwahati distance and delivery time
The road distance is about 2,600 to 3,000 km, depending on the pickup, the Guwahati endpoint and the corridor the carrier uses. A public navigation tool shows about 2,640 km and about 49 hours for a passenger car via Samruddhi. A loaded truck needs roads that suit a commercial vehicle, which is for the carrier to decide, so a truck's alignment can be longer than the passenger figure.
A possible truck alignment goes from the Mumbai or Nagpur side east and north-east, through the Siliguri corridor, and onto NH27 in Assam. NH27 is part of the journey, not the whole route.

Use these windows for initial planning and confirm the actual arrangement at booking. Road conditions, weather and building slots can extend it. As your date gets close, check the advisories from the state disaster management authority and the weather department for Guwahati, and ask your receiver about the unloading area on the day.

A few boxes, a mattress or a small set of furniture usually suit a shared load, at about ₹12,500 to ₹21,500 on this route. Send a list with rough sizes, number every carton, and carry your laptop, ID documents and medicines yourself. Count back from your joining or move-in date using the full 10 to 15 days.
Pickup in the Mumbai region and the Guwahati endpoint
Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai are different cities, so say which one you are loading from, and give the building, the tower, the floor, the lift and where a vehicle can stop. Include the loading gate if it differs from the main visitor entrance.
Guwahati also has more than one kind of endpoint. The quote and the final leg change with the one you name.

Do not assume a crossing or a fee on the way. The carrier confirms the approach to the actual property, and anything extra appears in the quote.
From the main road to your door
- Name the main road a driver would come in on.
- Describe the turn into your lane and where a vehicle can stop.
- Say how far the carry is from the stopping point to the door.
- State whether the building has a lift or only stairs, and on which floor you are.
- Name a dry, covered place to unload if the day is wet.
- Name the receiver, and say who holds the keys.
- Ask the building or society about the hours in which moving is allowed.
Describe what your property has, not what the area is like. A lane, a slope or a stair that matters should be written into the scope.
Move it or replace it: a worksheet for a 2,600 km decision
On a long route, the cost of moving a bulky piece can come close to the cost of buying a new one at the other end. The worksheet below gives you a way to check, with your own quotes, instead of guessing or going by a rule of thumb. It does not say that anything should be left behind.
Step 1: pick a bulky item group
Choose the few pieces that take up the most space or are hardest to carry, for example a large wardrobe and a dining table. Treat them as one group for the quote.
Step 2: ask the mover for two quotes
Ask for two itemised quotes on the same date, mode, packing scope and access, to the same Guwahati endpoint. Quote A has everything. Quote B has everything except the group. The difference between the two is the estimated marginal cost of moving that group. It is not a per-item share of the bill, and a smaller inventory does not always bring the price down in a straight line. If you are weighing two groups, ask for a separate quote without each, and a further one without both if you are removing both.
Step 3: price the replacement
Get delivered and assembled prices in Guwahati from local shops for pieces you would actually buy. Then collect actual resale offers in Mumbai. A hoped-for price is not an offer. Net replacement cost is the delivered and assembled price less the resale offers you hold.
Step 4: compare, then add what the numbers leave out
Compare the marginal cost of moving with the net replacement cost. Then weigh the points that price does not capture: whether the piece fits the new rooms, doors and lift; its condition and any repairs due; its sentimental value; how long you would wait for a new one in Guwahati and whether it is available; and the warranty on a new item.

On price alone, moving wins clearly for Group 1, since ₹5,500 against ₹24,000 leaves a gap of ₹18,500. For Group 2, replacing is cheaper by only ₹1,500, since ₹9,000 against ₹7,500 is a small gap. That gap is easily outweighed if the bed frame fits the new room well or you simply like it. Note that the two marginal costs, ₹5,500 and ₹9,000, need not add up to the saving from removing both, so ask for that quote if both are in question.
House shifting from Mumbai to Guwahati: packing, labelling and placement
Packing for days on the road
A journey of days puts goods through many more hours of vibration than a city move. Cartons are packed full enough not to collapse and snug enough not to rattle, and heavy items go into small cartons. Glassware and crockery are wrapped one piece at a time. Books and files go in small cartons, and screens travel upright in padded wrap or their original boxes with cables bagged and labelled. Sofas, mattresses and upholstered chairs get covers and padding, and the edges and corners of wooden furniture are padded.
Furniture that comes apart
Beds, wardrobes and tables are taken apart where agreed. Screws and fittings go in a labelled bag taped to the piece or kept in a labelled carton, so that reassembly in Guwahati is not a puzzle. Say which pieces are dismantled, and who reassembles them at the other end.
Cartons you pack yourself
A carton you seal yourself is carried as sealed, and the crew cannot vouch for what is inside. Write the contents and the room on the lid, and keep a list. Keep your documents, jewellery, cash, medicines and chargers with you.
Appliances
Follow the manual of each appliance. Where a model uses transit bolts, they are fitted before transport, removed before the machine is used, and stored after removal for the next move. Empty and dry refrigerators and washing machines as the manual describes. Split air conditioners, geysers and chimneys normally need a technician at each end, so say who is booking one in Guwahati.
Numbers, rooms and the count
Every carton gets a number and a room, and the numbers appear on a written inventory. At the Guwahati property, your receiver names each room, the crew unloads and carries goods to it, and unpacking and reassembly follow the scope you agreed. Count the cartons against the inventory, look over the larger pieces, and note any exception on the receipt before you sign.
What should stay out of the truck
Before sealing any cartons, separate LPG cylinders, fuel, fireworks, thinner and other hazardous or pressurised products. Ask your gas distributor about transferring the connection rather than packing a cylinder with household goods. Discuss any doubtful product with the carrier first.
Perishable food and leaking jars are poor companions for furniture on a journey of this length. Arrange pet travel separately and discuss plants before including them. Keep passports, jewellery, cash, property papers and other irreplaceable documents with you.
Moving physical office goods
A small office with approximately 8–10 workstations and chairs, computers, a few cabinets and file cartons can use ₹40,500–₹70,500 as an initial moving budget. Photograph and list the actual setup before requesting a quote: a meeting table, glass partitions or additional equipment can change the handling and vehicle requirement.
Plan the work gap
With goods travelling for several days, keep the equipment needed for ongoing work outside the main shipment. Ask your own IT team to back up data and prepare any temporary work arrangement. The moving scope covers packing and carrying hardware; network configuration and server installation need the appropriate technical team.
Release and receipt of assets
Give each packed asset a reference and destination room or department. Identify who can release it in Mumbai and who will receive it in Guwahati. Confirm the destination loading bay, lift and permitted hours before setting the arrival appointment. Factory machinery, commercial stock and unusually heavy equipment require a separate assessment.

A carrier takes about 7 to 12 days after pickup. That is a separate clock from your household goods, so the car and the goods will not necessarily arrive on the same day. Ask what type of carrier is used, and where in Guwahati the vehicle is handed over, since that point may not be your gate.
Handover record
- Photograph all sides of the vehicle, the odometer reading and any existing marks, and keep a signed copy of the condition form.
- Note the fuel level and the keys handed over, and follow the carrier's instructions.

Carrier booking and registration formalities are separate. If the vehicle will remain in Assam, check the current requirements with the relevant registering authorities before leaving Maharashtra, including whether an NOC, lender consent, road-tax steps or other documents apply. Keep those papers accessible. The carrier handover form records transport condition; it does not complete registration work.
Storage options and optional transit cover
For a long-distance move, resolve uncertain possession dates before dispatch. If you need storage, request a named location, package inventory, storage duration and the later delivery arrangement. Compare the combined handling, rent and redelivery price with postponing pickup; a daily rental figure alone does not show the whole cost.
Optional insurance needs to be arranged in time for the insured journey. Check when cover starts and ends, the declared values and the policy’s treatment of packing, handling and storage. Keep the issued documents and premium receipt. If damage appears, photograph it and notify the mover and any applicable insurer promptly, following the policy’s reporting requirements.
Moving documents and an employer reimbursement claim
If your employer is paying for a transfer, agree the paperwork before packing day. A quotation that is adequate for booking may not contain every detail your accounts team needs.
Ask HR or accounts before approving the move
- Do they need competing quotations and approval before dispatch?
- Should the invoice name you or the company, and is a company GSTIN required?
- Are packing, road transport, car transport, storage and optional insurance covered under the same limit or separate limits?
- Which supporting records and submission deadline apply: inventory, consignment note, payment receipts or vehicle handover form?
Match the invoice to the actual shipment
Give the billing requirements to the booking team early. Check the business name and GSTIN, the actual Mumbai-region pickup and Guwahati delivery addresses, the move reference, itemised work and applicable tax. If your destination changes from a Guwahati locality to Amingaon, North Guwahati or Borjhar, update the estimate and billing address before dispatch. Keep storage and later delivery charges visible if possession is delayed.
Keep your own copy of the agreed quotation, signed package inventory, consignment note and payment receipts. Carry original personal documents yourself. An employer decides what it reimburses; a mover invoice alone does not guarantee approval.
Preparing for the move
Before you book

Your flight or train arrival and the truck arrival are separate plans.
If you will first stay in temporary accommodation, tell the booking team which address is the final unloading point. Diverting furniture to a temporary room and moving it again can add handling and cost. Settle the receiving address and possession date before dispatch where possible.
Useful updates during the journey
Keep the booking reference and agreed update contact. Ask for confirmation of actual dispatch, any revised arrival window and the receiving appointment, rather than treating the Mumbai pickup receipt as proof that the road journey has begun. If a transfer between vehicles is planned, ask how package numbers and the count will be recorded.
Tell the booking contact promptly if the Guwahati keys or receiver become unavailable. Before arrival, reconfirm the lift or stairs, permitted hours and a dry place to receive the goods. A new delivery date should reach the receiver as well as the person who booked the move.
Choosing a mover and the terms to agree

Terms to agree in writing
