Chennai to Thanjavur Packers and Movers Charges
These are indicative budget guides for October 2026 on this route. They suit a shared-load move with normal packing and ordinary access, and they depend on your actual inventory. Confirm the final scope and payable figure in your written estimate.
| Move size | Budget guide | What moves the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Few items | Rs. 9,000 to 17,000 | Actual count, packed size, weight and volume, the charging basis and any minimum |
| 1 BHK | Rs. 14,500 to 23,000 | Furniture volume, appliances and access at both ends |
| 2 BHK | Rs. 18,500 to 27,500 | Number of large pieces, fragile goods, floors and lift access |
| 3 BHK | Rs. 24,500 to 36,500 | Inventory size, dismantling needs and carry distance |
| 4 BHK | Rs. 45,500 to 70,500 | Large inventories need an assessment of the actual contents |
| Office | Physical inventory estimate | Assets, IT equipment, files and storage units |
What one headline figure counts
For a household move, base packing, loading, road transport, unloading and agreed assembly are counted once in the range. Do not add them again as separate lines unless the estimate shows a different scope. A vehicle's base scope is a separate item and should be written separately.
Costs that may sit outside it
Tax is separate. Optional cover, tolls, parking, stairs, long carry, crates, waiting time, holding, transfer to another operator, technical work, unpacking of contents, removal of packing material and storage should each be marked included, extra or not applicable. When two estimates differ, check these scope lines alongside the inventory and vehicle mode, so compare the payable total after those marks, not the first number you are shown.
Dedicated trucks and large homes
A whole-home move on a dedicated truck, or a large inventory such as a big independent house with heavy furniture, is assessed separately. Forcing it into the 4 BHK range would hide the real inventory, so ALPM prices it from the list and the access details you supply.
Chennai to Thanjavur Distance and Route
Use about 340 km as the planning distance. The figure on a driving map changes with the road selected, and different selections show roughly 315 km to 344 km. The actual distance for your goods also depends on the pickup address, the final delivery point and the corridor chosen for the allocated vehicle.
An illustrative corridor
One illustrative inland approach runs through Tindivanam, Villupuram and Kumbakonam towards Thanjavur, and a coastal alternative can pass through Puducherry and Chidambaram. These are examples, not a promised route. The vehicle follows lawful roads for its type, so no fixed corridor, drive time, toll amount or truck permission is stated here.
Why car driving time is not your goods ETA
A passenger car's drive time leaves out packing, loading, consolidation, driver rest and unloading. Do not convert it into a delivery time for a goods vehicle. Ask the booking team for the dispatch window and the unloading slot instead.
Dedicated Truck, Shared Load and Timing After Dispatch
| Option | After dispatch | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated truck | 1 to 2 days | Full homes where dispatch control matters |
| Shared load | 2 to 4 days | Few items or flexible dates |
| Car or bike carrier | Its own window | Vehicles |
What happens before the clock starts
The days above are counted from the day the vehicle leaves Chennai. Packing, loading and consolidation all happen before that, so a shared load can leave later than the day your goods were packed. Ask when the vehicle is expected to leave before you confirm the date.
What a dedicated truck does and does not give
A dedicated truck gives you closer control over dispatch, but it is not an arrival guarantee. Road conditions and the unloading slot still affect the delivery day. Agree the unloading appointment before departure, and reconfirm it with the booking team when the vehicle is near its ETA. Vehicles travel in their own carrier window, so ask for that date separately.
Moving Dates, Rain and Your First Night in Thanjavur
Plan the journey around when your Thanjavur home will be ready, not just the road distance. A family function, school reopening or a joining date may make one day important to you. Give that date when enquiring and distinguish the packing day, dispatch window and receiving appointment.
- Rain near either address: check local forecasts and warnings close to your date. Arrange a dry packing space and sheltered carry where available. Keep furniture and cartons dry before covering them, and discuss a revised slot if access becomes unsafe.
- Pongal, holidays or a chosen housewarming date: confirm the receiver, keys, crew availability and building permission in advance. Your preferred day does not establish vehicle availability or guarantee delivery.
- Travelling ahead by bus or train: carry medicines, chargers, original papers, a change of clothes, bedding and a small kitchen kit with you. Give an authorised receiver the inventory and contact details if you will not be at the home for unloading.
For a shared load, ask about the wait before dispatch as well as the 2–4 day transit guide. For a dedicated truck, confirm the actual departure plan and unloading appointment even though the planning window is shorter.
Moving framed art, a veena or decorative pieces to Thanjavur
Thanjavur is known for bronze craft. When your own household includes an instrument, framed art or a decorative lamp, ordinary carton counts can miss the work needed. If your household owns a framed painting, an instrument or a decorative bronze, treat each as its own line in a dated item acceptance and packing record kept alongside the approved quote inventory. The record names the Chennai crew handler, the driver and the receiver, so everyone works from the same page.
What to record for each item
Give every piece an item ID. Note the frame and glass size, any protruding ornament, the case's outer height, width and depth, the weight if you know it, and photos of existing marks. Say whether the original hard case is still available. Record the acceptance status as YES, PENDING or DECLINED, with the handler, the approved packing, crate or case plan and its cost, who loads and unloads, and who opens the package and where. Add the final room, floor, lift or stairs, and the door path, and compare these three-dimensional sizes against the packed item, not the bare piece.
| ID | Item | Recorded | Status | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A01 | Cased veena | Outer case dimensions, weight if known, condition photos, original hard case available | PENDING | The case is not proof the instrument is road-ready, so wait for assessment and an approved plan |
| F01 | Framed art | Frame and glass size, a protruding ornament, unknown stability | PENDING | Specialist assessment pending, with no loading until the plan is accepted |
| D01 | Decorative lamp | Weight, protrusions, existing marks | YES, subject to the approved plan | Wrapped and loaded as agreed in the quote |
What happens to a pending item
A PENDING item is not packed under the ordinary carton price. Either the acceptance and plan are settled before loading, or the item is left out, deferred or moved to a separately approved arrangement. If the box or crate changes the dimensions or the access, the quote is revised to a new version. Confirm optional cover against the actual item and policy, separately from approving the packing plan.
Specialist advice
Unusual, irreplaceable or very fragile pieces may need advice from the manufacturer, a craftsperson or a conservator, or an approved specialist, and any such arrangement is agreed and priced after the item is assessed. Do not use DIY tape, chemicals or polish on artwork, and do not loosen instrument parts yourself. If you want cover, note a declared value and read the actual policy for its exclusions.
At handover
Record the outer IDs and the visible condition of the corresponding goods at the agreed handover. A closed outer count is not proof of what is inside, so arrange who opens each package and where. The crew should not casually disassemble art on the doorstep. Report any exception promptly, and keep the assessment photos and the packing available for comparison.
Pooja items, Tanjore paintings and heavy vessels
You may know the destination as Thanjavur or Tanjore. If your own load includes a Tanjore painting, a veena, a brass lamp or family pooja items, show each piece before packing is priced. A familiar item name does not tell the crew whether the frame is stable, the glass is loose or the case fits securely. The item record above helps settle those details before moving day.
Keep small valuables with you. Separate heavy brass or copper vessels into manageable loads instead of filling one oversized carton. Tell the estimator about a grinding stone or other unusually heavy kitchen piece. For a painting, avoid putting foam or tape directly against delicate raised decoration without suitable specialist guidance; the packing must protect the particular surface and frame, not follow one wrapping recipe for every artwork.
Home, Few-Item and Furniture Shifting
Full homes, few items and part loads
A full home move means packing, loading, road transport, unloading and agreed assembly in one scope. If you have only a bed, a washing machine and a handful of cartons, ask for a few-item quote instead of a full truck. A shared load may carry an entire home if the capacity and dates fit, and a part load is simply a portion of a shared vehicle, not a third mode of transport. Either way, you pay for what is carried, and the trade-off is that dispatch depends on when the shared vehicle is ready to leave.
Furniture that needs dismantling
Beds, wardrobes and tables are dismantled only where the design allows it. Fittings are labelled and bagged so they stay with the piece they belong to. Tell the estimator which items are modular, which have glass panels and who will reassemble them at Thanjavur, because agreed assembly is part of the scope and anything beyond it should be listed separately.
Student luggage, a parents' home or a work setup
A move into a hostel or PG may involve only luggage, a mattress, a study table and a few cartons; first check what the accommodation supplies and allows you to bring. When sending a fridge or cot to a parent's home, give the receiver the same item list and confirm someone can accept it. For a home office, keep essential work devices and documents with you until the household delivery slot is settled.
A few-item quote should identify the list, packed dimensions and any minimum charge. Do not compare it with a vehicle-only truck-hire figure without adding the packing, loading and unloading you need. For a complete house, suitable truck capacity follows the packed inventory rather than a fixed BHK-to-truck-size rule.
Packing Fragile Goods and Appliances
One material rarely suits every item. Books travel best in small cartons so they stay liftable, crockery needs dividers, and a glass tabletop needs rigid protection with cushioning around it. A television and other glass items may need rigid cushioned protection or a crate if the assessment says so. Ask the estimator what will be used for each of these before you agree the scope.
Refrigerator, washing machine and AC
For the refrigerator, follow the maker's guidance on defrosting and drying before the move. A washing machine may need transit bolts or restraints fitted if the model requires them, so check its manual instead of relying on a universal rule. There is no single day-before or restart rule that applies to every appliance, so confirm the steps for your model. An air conditioner normally needs a qualified AC or electrical technician for removal and refitting, and that work is quoted separately from the move.
Cartons you pack yourself
If you pack some cartons yourself, agree in writing how they are accepted and what happens to cover if something inside breaks. Label every carton by room, mark fragile boxes on two sides and keep a first-night bag with chargers, medicines, bedding and basic kitchen items. Photograph valuable appliances and furniture before packing begins.
Office Shifting from Chennai to Thanjavur
An office move is quoted from a physical inventory of desks, chairs, storage units, files and equipment, listed by room or department. Give each asset an ID, then record who releases it in Chennai and who receives it at Thanjavur. That way the list the crew loads from is the same list your receiver checks against.
Computers, servers and networking gear need their own plan. Your own qualified IT person should handle backup, disconnection, reconnection and testing, under terms arranged and priced separately with that IT provider. Plan reconnection and testing separately from the transport arrival. Heavy machinery, printers or equipment with special mounting needs go through a separate assessment rather than being added to the general inventory.
Car and Bike Transport from Chennai to Thanjavur
Vehicles normally travel on a separate carrier with their own date or window, so they may not leave with your household truck. Confirm both dates when you book, and keep the vehicle's base scope separate from the household price in writing.
| Vehicle | Budget guide |
|---|---|
| Standard bike | Rs. 3,000 to 5,000 |
| Standard car | Rs. 4,500 to 7,500 |
| Premium bike, SUV, luxury car or closed carrier | Separate assessment |
What decides the price
The actual model, the carrier type and the actual collection and delivery points and carrier availability decide the price, so a broad range cannot cover every car. Ask the quote to mark wrapping, collection, delivery, loading, unloading, tax and optional cover as included, extra or not applicable.
Before pickup
Take dated photos of every side, including the odometer reading, and note the keys and accessories handed over. Keep copies of the required vehicle papers. Follow the maker's and carrier's guidance on fuel and battery, because there is no universal low-fuel rule. Do not leave personal items or loose accessories inside.
If you only need loading onto your own vehicle, that is quoted separately with the responsibilities for each side written down.
Chennai Pickup and Thanjavur Delivery
Chennai pickup
The Chennai Senneerkuppam branch coordinates pickup. Tell the estimator the building type, floor, lift availability, where the truck can park and whether your society needs a permission letter or fixed moving hours. A long carry from the vehicle to your door or a flight of stairs can change the price, so mention them while the estimate is being made.
Thanjavur delivery
Thanjavur addresses vary. Areas such as Medical College Road, New Housing Unit and the old town have different building types and street widths. Share the actual building address, PIN code, goods entrance, receiver and room access, and say where the vehicle can stop. Street width is a practical question, not a fixed road policy, so ask for any smaller vehicle or extra carrying to be quoted before moving day.
Kumbakonam and Papanasam
If your final door is in Kumbakonam or Papanasam, give that address when you enquire. These are distinct requests and are not automatically priced like a Thanjavur city delivery, and they do not add a mandatory extra charge to every move.
Receiver and backup receiver
Name a contact at the Thanjavur end to receive the vehicle, hold the keys and handle any building permission. A backup receiver helps only if the gate, lift, crew access and room are ready. Otherwise agree a new slot in writing or a feasible holding arrangement before unloading.
Chennai pickup neighbourhoods to include in the enquiry
Send the pickup location whether it is Anna Nagar, T Nagar, Adyar, Velachery, Tambaram, Chromepet, Porur, Ambattur, Avadi, Poonamallee, Guindy, Medavakkam or the OMR side around Perungudi and Sholinganallur. Include the building name and entrance, rather than only a locality. Confirm the permitted packing and loading hours with your own association, along with lift size and the stopping point for the allocated vehicle.
Thanjavur town and nearby final destinations
Along with Medical College Road and New Housing Unit, enquiries may name Arulananda Nagar, Srinivasapuram, Karanthai, Nanjikottai Road, Vilar Road or Vallam. Share the house or flat address and the goods entrance. An old-town address needs its own approach check; a layout name is not proof that a large vehicle will fit.
If you mean Thiruvaiyaru, Orathanadu, Pattukkottai, Budalur or Thirukattupalli, state that final destination at the start, just as you would for Kumbakonam or Papanasam. These enquiries need their own address, availability and estimate. There is no standard Thanjavur add-on charge that can substitute for knowing where the goods are actually going.
Booking Papers and Billing for a Chennai to Thanjavur Move
Keep both full addresses, receiver contacts, the approved estimate, inventory, consignment reference and receipt together. Keep your original personal documents with you and supply the booking copies requested. A move within Tamil Nadu still needs a clear record of what was handed over and where it is going.
For car or bike transport, prepare the RC, insurance and applicable PUC details requested by the carrier, owner authorisation where needed, and condition photos. Confirm the handover contact and the keys and accessories supplied.
If an employer is reimbursing the move, share its billing name, GST details and documentation requirements before the invoice is prepared. ALPM's published GSTIN is 36FDRPM0957B1ZC. Office assets and commercial stock need their own applicable movement documents; do not silently include them in a used personal household list.
Storage, Transfer and Optional Cover
Storage, only if you need it
If your new home is not ready, storage can be considered where the operator and location are confirmed and available. Ask for custody IDs, the visible condition of the goods, access arrangements, the duration, the rate and the exit and redelivery terms in writing. Confirm the actual facility and payable holding terms before planning dispatch around it.
Transfer to another operator
A transfer is used only when it is needed, lawful and feasible. It requires a permitted location, the crew to unload, reload and carry, and the local leg to be costed once. Record the IDs and the visible condition of the goods, because an ID by itself says nothing about condition.
Optional cover
Optional cover depends on the actual insurer's policy: its declared value, exclusions, deductible and reporting steps, all read alongside the carrier's liability. There is no mandatory percentage and no assumption of a full payout. Ask what a claim looks like and who records it before you rely on any cover.
How the Move Runs, Step by Step
- Enquiry: you share pickup and drop addresses, preferred dispatch date and the load type you prefer.
- Inventory: you list every item, with fragile and unusual pieces on their own lines, and add photos or a short video of the access routes if you can.
- Estimate: ALPM reviews the inventory and access and returns an itemised estimate with inclusions and extras marked.
- Approval: you approve the written scope, the vehicle arrangement and the load type before anything is booked.
- Packing and inventory: items are packed and checked against the approved list, and a pending item stays out of loading until its plan is accepted, or is omitted or deferred by agreement.
- Dispatch and updates: the vehicle leaves Chennai, and updates go to the agreed contact.
- Unloading and handover: the vehicle is unloaded at the agreed slot, and you check the list against the goods.
Handover at Thanjavur
Check the IDs against the list and look at the visible condition of the corresponding goods. An intact outer or a correct count is not proof of what is inside, so unpack fragile items soon and report any exception promptly in writing, keeping your pre-packing photos available.
Why ALPM and How to Compare Movers
Agarwal Logistics Packers and Movers is an independent mover with a Chennai branch at Senneerkuppam. A move can start with a direct enquiry, a photo or video review of the access, an itemised estimate, an agreed contact for updates and a recorded condition at handover. That is a process you can check against your own quote, so the approved work is clear before moving day.
Whoever you hire, compare movers on the same terms.
| Compare | Ask for in writing |
|---|---|
| Mode and inventory | Dedicated or shared, with a part-load portion identified where applicable, and the list the price is built on |
| Street and doors | The pickup and drop addresses, floors, lift and where the vehicle stops |
| Scope | Who packs, who drives, who unloads and whether any leg is handed to another operator |
| Clock | The dispatch window, with delivery days counted from dispatch |
| Cover | What is offered, at what cost, and how a claim is recorded |
| Payable total | Tax, tolls, parking, stairs, long carry, crates and storage marked included or separate |
Money and changes
Ask for advance payment, stage payments, cancellation and rescheduling terms in writing before you book, so there is nothing to negotiate on moving day. Compare the payable total and the agreed scope, including work priced separately, before packing begins.
Reducing the bill without cutting essential protection
Remove items you will not need before the survey, then compare the same final list with each mover. If your dates are flexible, ask about shared capacity and alternative loading days. Owner-packing clothes or other suitable items can be discussed, but settle acceptance and cover terms first. Keep proper protection for glass, instruments and delicate furniture, and compare the payable total after the remaining work is listed.
