Packers and Movers Chennai to Mumbai Charges
These are indicative planning ranges for a Chennai to Mumbai household move in October 2026. They assume normally packed goods, normal access and a shared household load, and they cover packing, loading, road transport, unloading and agreed assembly done once. The itemised written estimate for your inventory is the figure that counts.
| Home size | Indicative planning range |
|---|---|
| Few items | ₹14,500–₹25,500 |
| 1 BHK | ₹26,500–₹40,500 |
| 2 BHK | ₹36,500–₹55,500 |
| 3 BHK | ₹48,500–₹65,500 |
| 4 BHK or villa | ₹65,500–₹80,500 |
Where your move may fall in the range
Lower figures usually suit compact loads with easy ground-floor or lift access, fewer fragile items and flexible dates. Higher figures tend to follow heavy furniture, many fragile pieces, stair carries, tight dates or extra assembly. Send photos or a short video of each room along with access details for both addresses, and ask the estimate to show which side of the range you fall on and why.
Few items instead of a full house
If you are moving a bed, a fridge and a few cartons, the price should follow the actual item count, dimensions, weight and volume. Ask what the charging basis is and whether any minimum applies, rather than assuming the small-load guide applies to every single item. A few-item estimate should not carry the scope of a full-house move.
What can sit outside the base figure
Ask for each of these to be marked on the estimate as included, extra or not applicable:
- Tax, shown on its own line
- Optional transit cover
- Tolls and parking
- Stairs and long carries
- Crates
- Waiting or holding time
- Transfer or rehandling
- Technical work such as AC or electrical removal
- Unpacking of contents
- Storage
Large inventories and whole-vehicle moves
A very large inventory is assessed by load mode and may not fit these ranges. A dedicated whole vehicle or a heavy special load is priced separately from this table.
Chennai to Mumbai Road Route and Distance
For planning, use about 1,300 km as the single guide for Chennai to Mumbai by road. Exact distance depends on the pickup and delivery addresses and on the corridor your vehicle uses, with the city-pair alternatives reviewed extending to about 1,400 km.
Three map checks, one planning figure
Road-map checks made in October 2026 for the city pair gave three driving distances.
| Corridor shown on the map | Distance |
|---|---|
| NH48 | 1,299 km |
| NH65 | 1,374 km |
| NH48 and NH66 | 1,401 km |
These are driving guides for the city pair, not a truck itinerary. They do not mean your goods vehicle will stay on any one highway, and they do not centre the journey on any particular city.
The operator chooses the vehicle corridor
The operator selects the corridor for the actual vehicle. Where current vehicle rules or closures apply, the operator confirms eligibility for the vehicle in use. Confirm the selected roads, any applicable vehicle-entry requirements and how actual tolls are treated in your quote. Ask for the selected corridor and the dispatch update along with your estimate.
Passenger drive times are not goods delivery times
Maps often show a passenger drive of roughly 22–29 hours. That figure does not describe a loaded goods vehicle, which stops, is loaded and unloaded, and may be consolidated. Use the days-after-dispatch window below for your move, not a map clock.
What the distance means for your dates
This is a multi-day road journey, so leave slack around your Mumbai handover. Avoid tying a lease start, a society move-in slot or a school admission to the last possible day.
Sending some items to Bengaluru or Pune on the way
A second destination needs its own plan. Before booking a split load, identify the pieces for each address, the two receivers, the handling at each stop and the sequence the operator can actually accept. Ask how the extra stop affects the price and the remaining delivery window. A city appearing on one road option does not make a stop part of every Chennai–Mumbai booking.
If the actual destination is Pune, plan that endpoint directly using the Chennai to Pune moving guide rather than treating it as Mumbai delivery with an informal drop.
Before Packing in Chennai: Room Fit and Entry Path in Mumbai
Measure the packed size, including the timber
A protective frame adds size as well as support. The long packages along this corridor show why a furniture measurement taken before packing may not be enough for the final carry.
For a Chennai to Mumbai move, check the packed width, height and depth of any crated piece. Compare them with the Mumbai goods lift and stair turns before the packing method is finalised. A lift's weight limit alone does not confirm that the package will fit through its door.
If the access needs another plan, discuss it while the piece is still in Chennai. Put any extra handling and assembly arrangements into the quote.
Before packing furniture from your Chennai home, check where each piece will stand in Mumbai and how it will reach that room. Two separate questions decide this. Will the piece fit the room it is assigned to? And can the packed piece physically reach that room? Finalise the move list only when both have an answer. Do not assume that every Mumbai flat is small. Measure yours.
Question one: does it fit the assigned room?
Measure the room as it is, then compare it with the assembled footprint of each large piece, which is a different number from its packed size.
| What to measure | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Usable wall length for the assigned piece | Wardrobes and shelves need clear wall, not wall behind fixed fittings |
| Floor footprint of the assembled piece | A bed that dismantles still needs clear floor once rebuilt |
| Shutter and door swing clearance | Wardrobe doors need space to open fully |
| Chair pull-out space and walkway | A dining table that fits can still block movement |
| Landlord fixtures | Fixed wardrobes, shelves and fittings may already use the wall you planned for |
Question two: can it get in?
Room fit is not access. Record each large item's packed length, depth and height, including blankets, corner guards or a crate, and keep that separate from its assembled footprint. Then check the route into the flat on its own.
| Check | What to record |
|---|---|
| Doors and corridors | Clear width and height at the narrowest point |
| Stairs, turns and landings | Turning room and headroom for a long packed piece |
| Lift cabin | Internal size and rated capacity, measured as well as the door |
| Goods entry and carry | Which gate is used and how far the crew must carry |
| Lift slot | The booked window, kept separate from the delivery window |
The decision record
Fill one line for each large item: item ID, photos, packed and assembled dimensions, the date you measured, the assigned room and your decision. Each decision means something specific.
| Decision | What it means |
|---|---|
| Take | The item goes on the move list as it is |
| Refit, only if the design allows | Dismantled by a method assessed before packing and rebuilt as part of agreed assembly |
| Leave or sell separately | You arrange this yourself, and the item is excluded from the load |
| Assessed storage | Considered only after an availability check at the actual operator location, and priced separately |
The same final move list then goes to both the written estimate and the loading crew. Mark items left behind as excluded from the final inventory and ask for the estimate to reflect the revised scope. Arrange any sale separately; storage needs a named facility, confirmed availability and its own written price.
A hypothetical example
As a hypothetical example, suppose that a three-door wardrobe has enough wall in the Mumbai bedroom. Its packed depth, however, does not clear the turn at the landing. Room fit alone would call it fine. The right step is a qualified assessment of whether it can be dismantled further, if the design allows, or a change to the inventory decision before packing. Do not assume rigging, hoisting or any alteration to the property will be arranged. Resolve that decision before materials and vehicle space are allocated.
What a Chennai to Mumbai Shifting Service Covers
Home and furniture moves
A full household move normally covers packing at the Chennai address, loading, road transport, unloading in Mumbai and agreed assembly. Furniture is wrapped and padded, and the inventory should say which pieces are dismantled.
Dismantling and refitting
Beds, wardrobes and tables are taken apart only where they are assessed to need it. Not all modular furniture is meant to be dismantled, and fixed carpentry is not routine work. Fittings from dismantled pieces are bagged and labelled, and rebuilding is part of the agreed reassembly. If a carpenter installed a piece, say so up front.
Few-item moves
For a bed, a fridge and a few cartons, ask for an estimate based on the actual count and size, as described under charges, rather than a full-house scope.
Appliances and electronics
For a fridge, follow the maker's defrost and drying instructions. For a washing machine, ask whether your model needs transit restraints before it travels, and secure hoses and loose parts. Removal of a split AC or geyser is work for a qualified technician, so confirm who does it and the cost. Keep original boxes for televisions and monitors if you still have them.
Office relocation
A physical office move needs a list of desks, chairs, files, boxed computers and asset IDs, with the release and receiving person named. Your own qualified IT contact should take backups and disconnect networks, since a move cannot promise zero downtime. Industrial machinery is assessed separately.
Storage
If goods must be held, ask for the actual operator and location, availability, intake IDs and condition, access, duration, rate, exit and redelivery terms. Confirm the named facility before booking storage.
Optional transit cover
Cover is optional. Ask for the actual insurer, policy terms, declared value, exclusions, deductible and the reporting steps, which work alongside the carrier's own liability. Confirm the actual premium and policy limits rather than assuming a fixed rate or compensation for every loss.
Loading only into your own vehicle
If you supply the vehicle and want only loading, that is quoted separately and the responsibility differs, so ask for it to be stated in writing.
Items only you can carry
Keep valuables, documents and medicines with you. Anything unusual, such as large plants, artwork or very heavy items, needs an actual acceptance assessment before it is placed on the list.
Packing Materials for a Long Road Move
Goods on a long road journey face vibration, stops and handling. Ask what will be used for each category and have it written into the estimate.
| Item | What to ask for |
|---|---|
| Books | Small cartons so the weight stays manageable |
| Crockery and glassware | Dividers and cushioning inside each carton |
| Furniture | Padding on edges and corners |
| Mattresses | A protective cover |
| Televisions and screens | A rigid cushioned pack, with a crate where the piece is assessed to need one |
Items you pack yourself
If you pack some boxes yourself, agree in writing how their condition and responsibility will be treated, since the crew cannot see what is inside a closed carton.
Damp-prone goods
Dry wooden items and textiles before wrapping, and arrange sheltered handling and a dry receiving space if rain is expected. Wrapping depends on their actual condition, and no waterproofing guarantee is implied.
Crates
Crates may be chargeable, so ask for them to be marked on the estimate.
Bike and Car Transport from Chennai to Mumbai
Vehicles travel on a separate carrier with their own date and delivery window, so they do not necessarily arrive with your household goods.
| Vehicle | Planning range |
|---|---|
| Standard bike | ₹5,500–₹9,000 |
| Standard car | ₹14,500–₹25,500 |
| Premium bike, SUV or luxury car | Assessed separately |
Before handing over a vehicle
Share the make, model and running condition, and confirm the pickup and Mumbai delivery windows in writing. Record the date, odometer reading, existing marks with photos, keys, accessories and papers. Leave fuel and battery as the carrier and the vehicle maker instruct, because there is no universal low-fuel rule. Remove loose personal items.
Open or closed carrier
Closed carriers are assessed separately. Ask whether parking, ramp access or a holding period would add charges.
At delivery
Compare the vehicle with your dated photos before signing and report anything promptly in writing.
Transport papers and a longer stay in Maharashtra
Ask the actual carrier which copies of the RC, insurance, pollution certificate where applicable and identification it needs. If the vehicle is leased or belongs to someone else, establish any authority required for that booking. Keep original documents accessible and record the keys handed over.
For a long-term stay, check the applicable NOC, registration and tax process with the relevant RTO before arranging it. Moving the car to Maharashtra and completing vehicle formalities are separate tasks; the transport charge should not be read as including those steps.
Chennai Pickup Planning
Share access details early
Give the full building, floor and parking details for your Chennai address, plus any lift booking, gate pass or time limit. Narrow lanes, long carries and stairs affect crew time and may change the estimate. If a smaller vehicle must shuttle goods to the main truck, say so at the start.
Prepare your Chennai home
Prepare the fridge and washing machine as their makers instruct, and keep a clear path from each room to the entrance. Label rooms in Mumbai terms, such as master bedroom or study, so unloading can follow the new layout.
On packing day
Keep valuables, documents, medicines and a first-night bag with you. Check the loading list against your own inventory before the vehicle leaves.
OMR, Tambaram and western Chennai pickups
For Sholinganallur, Thoraipakkam or Perungudi, send the apartment project, tower and goods gate with the flat number. Velachery, Medavakkam, Tambaram, Pallavaram, Chromepet, Guindy, Adyar, Anna Nagar, Ambattur, Avadi, Porur and Poonamallee enquiries need the actual loading entrance and permitted slot too. The branch location does not establish how long it takes to reach your home.
Tell the booking team when the Chennai keys must be returned and when the Mumbai property will first accept goods. If the dates do not line up, compare the transport options and any holding arrangement before packing, while you can still adjust your travel or handover.
Mumbai Delivery and Receiving Plan
Name the actual endpoint
Greater Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Panvel are distinct municipal corporations within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, so they are separate delivery endpoints, not interchangeable ones. Give the full building, wing and flat, the goods gate and PIN code, the name of the receiver and any lift slot.
If the receiver is not ready
A backup receiver is used only if the gate, lift, crew and room are ready. Otherwise the plan is a new agreed slot, or an assessed holding arrangement at an actual operator location. Holding terms cover availability, custody, IDs, condition, access, duration, rate, exit and redelivery, and any waiting charge should be agreed in writing.
If a transfer vehicle is needed
A transfer is possible only where it is lawful and feasible. It is assessed like any other leg, including the operator and location, crew availability, unloading, reloading, the local leg, ID and condition checks and cost, counted once. It is not an automatic shuttle, so do not authorise an improvised roadside unload.
Check the handover one by one
Match each carton and furniture piece by its outer ID and visible condition against the loading list. A count alone, or the closed boxes, is not proof of contents. Note any visible damage on the receipt before the crew leaves, report exceptions promptly in writing, and open fragile cartons soon.
Ask the society about permission, lift use and charges
Have the owner or tenant ask the society which move-in documents it requires, whether goods movement needs a booking, and which gate and lift the crew may use. Ask separately about any deposit or shifting charge, who pays it and how a refundable amount is returned. These are questions for your building, not one policy for all Mumbai societies.
Send the agreed slot and entry instructions to the dispatcher before arrival. Ask the operator to check applicable vehicle-entry requirements for the allocated truck, route and date. If a different vehicle or transfer is needed, agree the handling and price first; a society approval alone does not establish that a large truck can use every approach road.
Mumbai, Thane or Navi Mumbai: Make the Quote Match the Address
A Mumbai enquiry becomes much more useful when it names the real receiving locality. Add the PIN, wing, tower and flat together so the distance assessment and furniture-access check refer to the same home.
| Receiving address | Useful detail | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Andheri, Powai, Goregaon, Malad or Borivali | East/west where used, project, wing and goods entrance | Actual vehicle stopping point, carry route and booked lift. |
| Chembur, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli or Mulund | Street, building, floor and approach pin | The packed furniture path, not just room dimensions. |
| Majiwada, Kolshet or Ghodbunder Road in Thane | Full Thane address, tower and entrance | That the quote names this endpoint rather than a general Mumbai landmark. |
| Vashi, Nerul, Airoli, Belapur, Kharghar or Panvel | Actual city/locality, sector where used, project and PIN | The specific receiving property and approach; do not substitute a broad MMR label. |
Keep the relocation and reimbursement file together
Save the final inventory, itemised estimate, payment proof, invoice, consignment note, agreed update contact and receiving instructions. Keep any optional cover policy with those records. For an employer-paid move, share the billing name, GST details where applicable, claim format and approved services before booking. Household transport, a vehicle and storage may need separate scope lines.
Rain at either building
Check the forecast for the Chennai loading date and the Mumbai receiving window. Dry belongings before closing cartons, agree the protection during each handling stage and arrange a sheltered receiving place. If weather changes the ETA, reconfirm the society slot and receiver rather than assuming the original appointment remains available.
How to Compare Chennai to Mumbai Moving Quotes
Two quotes of similar size can describe very different jobs. Put the same inventory, the same load mode and the same scope at both doors in front of every provider, then compare on these points.
| Point | Confirm in writing |
|---|---|
| Inventory | The same final move list for every provider |
| Scope at both doors | Packing, loading, unloading, dismantling and assembly |
| Load mode and clock | Dedicated or shared, and days after dispatch |
| Materials | What is used and whether crates are extra |
| Added charges | Tax, tolls, parking, stairs, long carry, waiting, holding and technician work |
| Vehicles | Separate carrier, date and window |
| Cover | Insurer, premium, exclusions and claim steps, if you choose it |
| Changes | How a changed date, inventory or access affects price, and the written cancellation and rescheduling terms |
| Written total | One total with every extra marked |
A figure that cannot answer these points is a starting number, not a household estimate.
