The usual reasons are a different inventory list, a different packing level, a different vehicle size, or access notes that one surveyor recorded and another skipped. Compare the written scope before comparing the totals.

The right option depends on how much you are moving and how fixed your dates are. Use the table as a starting point and let the inventory survey settle it.

Full house shifting

This covers packing, loading, transport, unloading and placement of furniture, appliances, kitchen goods and cartons. Beds and wardrobes are dismantled and reassembled where agreed. For an Ernakulam address, the inventory still sets the handling scope; confirm the exact property rather than relying on the broader city name.

Few items and part load

A part load can be the more economical choice when timing is flexible, because you pay for the space you use rather than a whole vehicle. When your inventory sits near the line between a large part load and a small dedicated vehicle, ask for both prices and both timing windows.

Furniture-only moves

List each piece with its size, and say which items must be dismantled. Agree who reassembles in Kochi and whether that is part of the quote. Screws and fittings should be bagged and labelled to the piece they belong to.

Beds and wardrobes are dismantled where their design and access require it, with agreed refitting and labelled fittings. For a refrigerator or washing machine, follow the manufacturer's manual or a qualified technician on draining, drying, securing the drum and the right time to do it. The timing depends on the model, so there is no single rule that fits every appliance. If a technician is needed for disconnection or reinstallation, ask whether the visit and any waiting time are included or extra. Do not drain fuel, release gas or open sealed units yourself.

Keep with you

Cash, jewellery, medicines, original documents and storage drives should travel with you. Live plants and pets are not suited to a goods vehicle. Ask for the list of items the carrier will not take, in writing.

Kochi, Cochin or Ernakulam: Give the Exact Receiving Locality

People use Kochi, Cochin and Ernakulam when describing a move, but those labels alone do not identify the delivery building. Include the locality, PIN, property name and goods entrance so the quote and driver instructions refer to the same address.

If the actual destination is Thrissur, Kottayam, Alappuzha or another town, request a quote for that address. A town appearing near the wider journey does not make its delivery distance, unloading or timing identical to Kochi.

Kochi delivery: confirm the road goods gate before dispatch

Kochi, Ernakulam and Cochin are used loosely, so none of them is a final delivery address. A loaded vehicle stops at one specific entrance, and that entrance has to be agreed before the vehicle leaves Chennai.

Mainland and older-quarter addresses

A mainland apartment around Edappally, Kakkanad or Vyttila has a different handover from a house in Fort Kochi or Mattancherry. Fort Kochi lies southwest of mainland Kochi, beside Mattancherry. • A road goods-gate pin, not the nearest public landmark
• A photograph of the approach lane

Arrival in the city is not a ready room

A hypothetical six-piece example

This is a hypothetical illustration, not an actual job. Suppose a move has six outer pieces: two furniture pieces, F1 and F2, and four cartons, C1 to C4. Each carries its ID on the outside.

A count of six alone is not enough, because it does not show that C3 is the same carton that left Chennai. A count also does not prove that a closed carton's contents are intact. Matching IDs and the outer condition at every step are the record. If an item is missing or damaged, record the ID, visible condition, handover point and people present, then report it through the agreed contact; the record helps investigate what happened.
