Old Jaipur Delivery: Bazaar Landmark and the Home Entrance

Many Jaipur addresses, especially in the older bazaar areas, are given by bazaar, chaupar or gate. The walled city’s grid of bazaars and chaupars leads into inner streets and residential entrances. A familiar landmark helps locate the neighbourhood but does not identify the unloading point. For a move it is useful to keep four things apart:

• The landmark: the bazaar, chaupar or gate people use to find the area.
• The shop frontage: the commercial face on the bazaar street, if the home sits above or behind a shop.
• The residential entrance: often a separate stair door, one or more floors below the rooms the goods are meant for.
• The lawful vehicle stop: where a goods vehicle can actually halt, which may not be the entrance.

These can be the same place, but you should not assume they are. Confirm which applies to your address and your date.

An illustrative example

For this planning example, a family is moving into a first-floor flat above a shop on a bazaar street. The booking gives a chaupar landmark and the shop name. A crew that unloads at the shop frontage has finished at the street, but the agreed receiving point was the flat. If the only contact on file is the shopkeeper downstairs, nobody with authority over the flat or its staircase may be there to say which room each piece belongs in. The fix is made before dispatch: name the stair door, the floor, the room and the person who accepts the goods.

Who receives, and with what authority

A shopkeeper, neighbour or landmark contact is not automatically the authorised household receiver. Before dispatch, agree three things in writing: who is at the Jaipur end, whether they hold the keys, and whether they are authorised to accept your goods. Separately, confirm any owner, landlord or building permission needed to use the stair, carry path and time slot. Part load describes how much of a vehicle your goods fill. It is a quantity, not a third transport mode, and it is not another word for shared. A small quantity can still travel on a dedicated vehicle, and a large one can travel shared. For a selected load, confirm in writing whether it travels shared or dedicated, whether a minimum charge applies, and when the consolidated vehicle is expected to leave if it is shared. A shared small load can wait for consolidation before it moves, which is the main trade-off against a lower cost.

Packing, appliances and fragile pieces

Furniture

Furniture is dismantled only where its design permits. Panels are protected and labelled, and screws and fittings are bagged and kept with the piece they belong to so assembly goes faster. If the goods cannot be unloaded on arrival

Holding
