How Long Does the Complete Move Take?

With a dedicated truck, the road journey takes about 8 to 10 hours. An early packing start can allow dispatch later the same day, but the inventory, city exit and loading time decide when the truck leaves. Most families prefer unloading the next morning, because many apartments and colonies in Pondy do not allow unloading at night. So in practice: plan packing on Day 1 and unloading on Day 2, subject to the agreed receiving slot.

A Vellore-side alternative can be assessed for road conditions or heavy pilgrimage traffic around Tiruvannamalai. It is longer and should be checked against current permissions and the booked vehicle, rather than promised for every full-moon day.

City exit, driving breaks and the final receiving lane matter as much as highway distance. Agree the actual dispatch and unloading window, particularly if you are travelling ahead of the truck.

Northeast Monsoon, Girivalam Traffic and Moving Dates

Bangalore gets most of its rain in the southwest monsoon, but Pondicherry is different. Its main rainy season is the northeast monsoon, from October to December. This is also the time when cyclones form in the Bay of Bengal, and a few days of very heavy rain in Pondy is quite normal in November. If your move falls in these months, keep a little flexibility in the date. We keep an eye on IMD warnings, and if there is a cyclone alert agree a safer revised slot before dispatch rather than unloading your sofa in a downpour.

A few other things that affect the route:

• Karthigai Deepam (Nov/Dec) and full moon days: lakhs of devotees come to Tiruvannamalai for Girivalam, and the town gets jammed. Assess an alternative via the Vellore side if current conditions and vehicle permissions make it suitable.
• Long weekends and New Year: White Town, Beach Road and ECR get very crowded with tourists. Delivery inside the French Quarter is slower, so weekdays are better.
• Month end: the 28th to the 2nd is the busiest time for movers everywhere. Mid-month dates are easier to get and sometimes cheaper.
• Summer (April to June): Pondy gets hot and humid, so plan loading and unloading around heat as well as traffic. Good time if your dates are flexible.

Ask about any eligible Karnataka tax refund and the rules for BH-series or temporary stays. Keep transport and delivery records, but remember that moving the vehicle does not itself complete registration formalities.
